Judges 5 21 Torrens Cison traxit cadavera eorum, torrens Cadumim, torrens Cison : conculca, anima mea, robustos. The torrent of Cison dragged their carcasses, the torrent of Cadumim, the torrent of Cison: tread thou, my soul, upon the strong ones.
And they were grievously oppressed by them. And they made themselves dens and caves in the mountains, and strong holds to resist.
And when they who dwelt in the tower of Sichem, had heard this, they went into the temple of their god Berith, where they had made a covenant with him, and from thence the place had taken its name, and it was exceeding strong.
But he, also despising the words of Israel, suffered him not to pass through his borders: but gathering an infinite multitude, went out against him to Jasa, and made strong opposition.
Judges 13 4 Cave ergo ne bibas vinum ac siceram, nec immundum quidquam comedas : Now therefore beware, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing.
But he answered thus: Behold thou shalt conceive and bear a son: beware thou drink no wine, nor strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: for the child shall be a Nazarite of God from his infancy, from his mother's womb until the day of his death.
And let her eat nothing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: and whatsoever I have commanded her, let her fulfil and observe.
And he said to them: Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not for three days expound the riddle. 1_Kings 1 15 Respondens Anna : Nequaquam, inquit, domine mi : nam mulier infelix nimis ego sum : vinumque et omne quod inebriare potest, non bibi, sed effudi animam meam in conspectu Domini. Anna answering, said: Not so, my lord: for I am an exceeding unhappy woman, and have drunk neither wine nor any strong drink, but I have poured out my soul before the Lord.
There is none holy as the Lord is: for there is no other beside thee, and there is none strong like our God. 1_Kings 23 14 Morabatur autem David in deserto in locis firmissimis, mansitque in monte solitudinis Ziph, in monte opaco : quaerebat eum tamen Saul cunctis diebus, et non tradidit eum Deus in manus ejus. But David abode in the desert in strong holds, and he remained in a mountain of the desert of Ziph, in a woody hill. And Saul sought him always: but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.
1_Kings 23 19 Ascenderunt autem Ziphaei ad Saul in Gabaa, dicentes : Nonne ecce David latitat apud nos in locis tutissimis silvae, in colle Hachila, quae est ad dexteram deserti ? And the Ziphites went up to Saul, in Gabaa, saying: Lo, doth not David lie hid with us in the strong holds of the wood, in mount Hachila, which is on the right hand of the desert. Καὶ ἀνέβησαν οἱ Ζιφαῖοι ἐκ τῆς αὐχμώδους πρὸς Σαοὺλ ἐπὶ τὸν βουνὸν, λέγοντες, οὐκ ἰδοὺ Δαυὶδ κέκρυπται παρʼ ἡμῖν ἐν Μεσσαρὰ ἐν τοῖς στενοῖς ἐν τῇ Καινῇ ἐν τῷ βουνῷ τοῦ Ἑχελᾶ τοῦ ἐκ δεξιῶν τοῦ Ἰεσσαιμοῦ;

Absalom also sent for Achitophel the Gilonite, David's counsellor, from his city Gilo. And while he was offering sacrifices, there was a strong conspiracy, and the people running together increased with Absalom. God is my strong one, in him will I trust: my shield, and the horn of my salvation: he lifteth me up, and is my refuge: my saviour, thou wilt deliver me from iniquity.

Qui ait : Nolite mittere. And they said to him: Behold, there are with thy servants, fifty strong men, that can go, and seek thy master, lest, perhaps, the spirit of the Lord, hath taken him up and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said: Do not send.
4_Kings 8 12 Cui Hazael ait : Quare dominus meus flet ? At ille dixit : Quia scio quae facturus sis filiis Israel mala. And he said: Because I know the evil that thou wilt do to the children of Israel. Their strong cities thou wilt burn with fire, and their young men thou wilt kill with the sword, and thou wilt dash their children, and rip up their pregnant women.
