Send men to view the land of Chanaan, which I will give to the children of Israel, one of every tribe, of the rulers.
Numbers 13 17 Haec sunt nomina virorum, quos misit Moyses ad considerandam terram : vocavitque Osee filium Nun, Josue. These are the names of the men, whom Moses sent to view the land: and he called Osee the son of Nun, Josue.
Numbers 13 21 humus, pinguis an sterilis, nemorosa an absque arboribus. Confortamini, et afferte nobis de fructibus terrae. Erat autem tempus quando jam praecoquae uvae vesci possunt. The ground, fat or barren, woody or without trees. Be of good courage, and bring us of the fruits of the land. Now it was the time when the firstripe grapes are fit to be eaten.
Numbers 13 22 Cumque ascendissent, exploraverunt terram a deserto Sin, usque Rohob intrantibus Emath. And when they were gone up, they viewed the land from the desert of Sin, unto Rohob as you enter into Emath.
Numbers 13 26 Reversique exploratores terrae post quadraginta dies, omni regione circuita, And they that went to spy out the land returned after forty days, having gone round all the country, Καὶ πορευθέντες ἦλθον πρὸς Μωυσῆν καὶ Ἀαρὼν καὶ πρὸς πᾶσαν συναγωγὴν υἱῶν Ἰσραὴλ, εἰς τὴν ἔρημον Φαρὰν Κάδης· καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτοῖς ῥῆμα καὶ πάσῃ συναγωγῇ, καὶ ἔδειξαν τὸν καρπὸν τῆς γῆς,
Would God that we had died in Egypt: and would God we may die in this vast wilderness, and that the Lord may not bring us into this land, lest we fall by the sword, and our wives and children be led away captives. Is it not better to return into Egypt?
Numbers 14 16 Non poterat introducere populum in terram pro qua juraverat : idcirco occidit eos in solitudine ? He could not bring the people into the land for which he had sworn, therefore did he kill them in the wilderness.
But yet all the men that have seen my majesty, and the signs that I have done in Egypt, and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now ten times, and have not obeyed my voice, Ὅτι πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ ὁρώντες τὴν δόξαν μου, καὶ τὰ σημεῖα ἃ ἐποίησα ἐν Αἰγύπτῳ, καὶ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ ἐπείρασάν με τοῦτο δέκατον, καὶ οὐκ εἰσήκουσαν τῆς φωνῆς μου,
For the Amalecite and the Chanaanite dwell in the valleys. To morrow remove the camp, and return into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.
Numbers 14 29 In solitudine hac jacebunt cadavera vestra. In the wilderness shall your carcasses lie. All you that were numbered from twenty years old and upward, and have murmured against me, Ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ταύτῃ πεσεῖται τὰ κῶλα ὑμῶν· καὶ πᾶσα ἡ ἐπισκοπὴ ὑμῶν, καὶ οἱ κατηριθμημένοι ὑμῶν ἀπὸ εἰκοσαετοῦς καὶ ἐπάνω, ὅσοι ἐγόγγυσαν ἐπʼ ἐμοί·
Numbers 14 32 Vestra cadavera jacebunt in solitudine. Your carcasses shall lie in the wilderness.
Numbers 14 33 Filii vestri erunt vagi in deserto annis quadraginta, et portabunt fornicationem vestram, donec consumantur cadavera patrum in deserto, Your children shall wander in the desert forty years, and shall bear your fornication, until the carcasses of their fathers be consumed in the desert, Οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἔσονται νεμόμενοι ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη· καὶ ἀνοίσουσι τὴν πορνείαν ὑμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἀναλωθῇ τὰ κῶλα ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ,
Numbers 14 33 Filii vestri erunt vagi in deserto annis quadraginta, et portabunt fornicationem vestram, donec consumantur cadavera patrum in deserto, Your children shall wander in the desert forty years, and shall bear your fornication, until the carcasses of their fathers be consumed in the desert, Οἱ δὲ υἱοὶ ὑμῶν ἔσονται νεμόμενοι ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ τεσσαράκοντα ἔτη· καὶ ἀνοίσουσι τὴν πορνείαν ὑμῶν, ἕως ἂν ἀναλωθῇ τὰ κῶλα ὑμῶν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ,
Numbers 14 35 quoniam sicut locutus sum, ita faciam omni multitudini huic pessimae, quae consurrexit adversum me : in solitudine hac deficiet, et morietur. For as I have spoken, so will I do to all this wicked multitude, that hath risen up together against me: in this wilderness shall it faint away and die.
Numbers 15 32 Factum est autem, cum essent filii Israel in solitudine, et invenissent hominem colligentem ligna in die sabbati, And it came to pass, when the children of Israel were in the wilderness, and had found a man gathering sticks on the sabbath day, Καὶ ἦσαν οἱ υἱοὶ Ἰσραὴλ ἑν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, καὶ εὗρον ἄνδρα συλλέγοντα ξύλα τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῶν σαββάτων.
Numbers 16 13 Numquid parum est tibi quod eduxisti nos de terra, quae lacte et melle manabat, ut occideres in deserto, nisi et dominatus fueris nostri ? Is it a small matter to thee, that thou hast brought us out of a land that flowed with milk and honey, to kill us in the desert, except thou rule also like a lord over us? Μὴ μικρὸν τοῦτο, ὅτι ἀνήγαγες ἡμᾶς εἰς γῆν ῥέουσαν γάλα καὶ μέλι, ἀποκτεῖναι ἡμᾶς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ὅτι κατάρχεις ἡμῶν;
Numbers 20 1 Veneruntque filii Israel et omnis multitudo in desertum Sin, mense primo, et mansit populus in Cades. Mortuaque est ibi Maria, et sepulta in eodem loco. And the children of Israel, and all the multitude came into the desert of Sin, in the first month: and the people abode in Cades. And Mary died there, and was buried in the same place.
Numbers 20 4 Cur eduxistis ecclesiam Domini in solitudinem, ut et nos et nostra jumenta moriamur ? Why have you brought out the church of the Lord into the wilderness, that both we and our cattle should die? Καὶ ἱνατί ἀνηγάγετε τὴν συναγωγὴν Κυρίου εἰς τὴν ἔρημον ταύτην ἀποκτεῖναι ἡμᾶς, καὶ τα κτήνη ἡμῶν;
And when king Arad the Chanaanite, who dwelt towards the south, had heard this, to wit, that Israel was come by the way of the spies, he fought against them, and overcoming them carried off their spoils.
And speaking against God and Moses, they said: Why didst thou bring us out of Egypt, to die in the wilderness? There is no bread, nor have we any waters: our soul now loatheth this very light food.
Numbers 21 11 Unde egressi fixere tentoria in Jeabarim, in solitudine quae respicit Moab contra orientalem plagam. And departing thence they pitched their tents in Jeabarim, in the wilderness, that faceth Moab toward the east.
Which they left and encamped over against Arnon, which is in the desert and standeth out on the borders of the Amorrhite. For Arnon is the border of Moab, dividing the Moabites and the Amorrhites.
Numbers 21 19 De Matthana in Nahaliel : de Nahaliel in Bamoth. From Mathana unto Nahaliel: from Nahaliel unto Bamoth.
And he would not grant that Israel should pass by his borders: but rather gathering an army, went forth to meet them in the desert, and came to Jasa and fought against them.
Numbers 23 28 Cumque duxisset eum super verticem montis Phogor, qui respicit solitudinem, And when he had brought him upon the top of mount Phogor, which looketh towards the wilderness, Καὶ παρέλαβε Βαλὰκ τὸν Βαλαὰμ ἐπὶ κορυφὴν τοῦ Φογὼρ, τὸ παρατεῖνον εἰς τὴν ἔρημον.
And when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord that he should bless Israel, he went not as he had gone before, to seek divination: but setting his face towards the desert, Καὶ ἰδὼν Βαλαὰμ ὅτι καλόν ἐστιν ἐναντίον Κυρίου εὐλογεῖν τὸν Ἰσραὴλ, οὐκ ἐπορεύθη κατὰ τὸ εἰωθὸς αὐτῷ εἰς συνάντησιν τοῖς οἰωνοῖς, καὶ ἀπέστρεψε τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ εἰς τὴν ἔρημον.
Of whom Nadab and Abiu died, when they had offered the strange fire before the Lord.
Among whom there was not one of them that were numbered before by Moses and Aaron in the desert of Sinai.
Our father died in the desert, and was not in the sedition, that was raised against the Lord under Core, but he died in his own sin: and he had no male children. Why is his name taken away out of his family, because he had no son? Give us a possession among the kinsmen of our father.
Numbers 27 14 quia offendistis me in deserto Sin in contradictione multitudinis, nec sanctificare me voluistis coram ea super aquas. Hae sunt aquae contradictionis in Cades deserti Sin. Because you offended me in the desert of Sin in the contradiction of the multitude, neither would you sanctify me before them at the waters. These are the waters of contradiction in Cades of the desert of Sin.

Numbers 32 13 Iratusque Dominus adversum Israel, circumduxit eum per desertum quadraginta annis, donec consumeretur universa generatio, quae fecerat malum in conspectu ejus. And the Lord being angry against Israel, led them about through the desert forty years, until the whole generation, that had done evil in his sight, was consumed.
Numbers 32 15 Quod si nolueritis sequi eum, in solitudine populum derelinquet, et vos causa eritis necis omnium. For if you will not follow him, he will leave the people in the wilderness, and you shall be the cause of the destruction of all.
And from Soccoth they came into Etham, which is in the uttermost borders of the wilderness.

Numbers 33 36 Inde profecti, venerunt in desertum Sin, haec est Cades. They removed from thence and came into the desert of Sin, which is Cades.

The south side shall begin from the wilderness of Sin, which is by Edom: and shall have the most salt sea for its furthest limits eastward: Καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν τὸ κλίτος τὸ πρὸς Λίβα ἀπὸ ἐρήμου Σὶν ἕως ἐχόμενον Ἐδὼμ, καὶ ἔσται ὑμῖν τὰ ὅρια πρὸς λίβα ἀπὸ μέρους τῆς θαλάσσης τῆς ἁλυκῆς ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν.
These are the words, which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan, in the plain wilderness, over against the Red Sea, between Pharan and Thophel and Laban and Haseroth, where there is very much gold.

Cumque venissemus in Cadesbarne, And departing from Horeb, we passed through the terrible and vast wilderness, which you saw, by the way of the mountain of the Amorrhite, as the Lord our God had commanded us. And when we were come into Cadesbarne, Καὶ ἀπάραντες ἐκ Χωρὴβ ἐπορεύθημεν πᾶσαν τὴν ἔρημον τὴν μεγάλην καὶ τὴν φοβερὰν ἐκείνην, ἣν εἴδετε, ὁδὸν ὄρους τοῦ Ἀμοῤῥαίου, καθότι ἐνετείλατο Κύριος ὁ Θεὸς ἡμῶν ἡμῖν, καὶ ἤλθομεν ἕως Κάδης Βαρνή.
The Lord God, who is your leader, himself will fight for you, as he did in Egypt in the sight of all.
But return you and go into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.
Deuteronomy 2 1 Profectique inde, venimus in solitudinem, quae ducit ad mare Rubrum, sicut mihi dixerat Dominus : et circuivimus montem Seir longo tempore. And departing from thence we came into the wilderness that leadeth to the Red Sea, as the Lord had spoken to me: and we compassed mount Seir a long time.
Deuteronomy 2 7 Dominus Deus tuus benedixit tibi in omni opere manuum tuarum : novit iter tuum, quomodo transieris solitudinem hanc magnam, per quadraginta annos habitans tecum Dominus Deus tuus, et nihil tibi defuit. The Lord thy God hath blessed thee in every work of thy hands: the Lord thy God dwelling with thee, knoweth thy journey, how thou hast passed through this great wilderness, for forty years, and thou hast wanted nothing.

Bosor in the wilderness, which is situate in the plains of the tribe of Ruben: and Ramoth in Galaad, which is in the tribe of Gad: and Golan in Basan, which is in the tribe of Manasses.
Deuteronomy 6 4 Audi, Israel : Dominus Deus noster, Dominus unus est. Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one Lord.
Deuteronomy 7 22 ipse consumet nationes has in conspectu tuo paulatim atque per partes. He will consume these nations in thy sight by little and little and by degrees. Thou wilt not be able to destroy them altogether: lest perhaps the beasts of the earth should increase upon thee.
And thou shalt remember all the way through which the Lord thy God hath brought thee for forty years through the desert, to afflict thee and to prove thee, and that the things that were known in thy heart might be made known, whether thou wouldst keep his commandments or no. Καὶ μνησθήσῃ πᾶσαν τὴν ὁδὸν, ἣν ἤγαγέ σε Κύριος ὁ Θεός σου ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ὅπως ἂν κακώσῃ σε καὶ πειράσῃ σε, καὶ διαγνωσθῇ τὰ ἐν τῇ καρδίᾳ σου, εἰ φυλάξῃ τὰς ἐντολὰς αὐτοῦ ἢ οὔ.
And was thy leader in the great and terrible wilderness, wherein there was the serpent burning with his breath, and the scorpion and the dipsas, and no waters at all: who brought forth streams out of the hardest rock, τοῦ ἀγαγόντος σε διὰ τῆς ἐρήμου τῆς μεγάλης καὶ τῆς φοβερᾶς ἐκείνης, οὗ ὄφις δάκνων, καὶ σκορπίος, καὶ δίψα, οὗ οὐκ ἦν ὕδωρ· τοῦ ἐξαγαγόντος σοι ἐκ πέτρας ἀκροτόμου πηγὴν ὕδατος·
Et postquam afflixit ac probavit, ad extremum misertus est tui, And fed thee in the wilderness with manna which thy fathers knew not. And after he had afflicted and proved thee, at the last he had mercy on thee, τοῦ ψωμίσαντός σε τὸ μάννα ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ὃ οὐκ ᾔδεις σὺ, καὶ οὐκ ᾔδεισαν οἱ πατέρες σου, ἵνα κακώσῃ σε, καὶ ἐκπειράσῃ σε, καὶ εὖ σε ποιήσῃ ἐπʼ ἐσχάτων τῶν ἡμερῶν σου.
Remember, and forget not how thou provokedst the Lord thy God to wrath in the wilderness. From the day that thou camest out of Egypt unto this place, thou hast always strove against the Lord.
Deuteronomy 9 28 ne forte dicant habitatores terrae, de qua eduxisti nos : Non poterat Dominus introducere eos in terram, quam pollicitus est eis, et oderat illos : idcirco eduxit, ut interficeret eos in solitudine : Lest perhaps the inhabitants of the land, out of which thou hast brought us, say: The Lord could not bring them into the land that he promised them, and he hated them: therefore he brought them out, that he might kill them in the wilderness, Μὴ εἴπωσιν οἱ κατοικοῦντες τὴν γῆν ὅθεν ἐξήγαγες ἡμᾶς ἐκεῖθεν, λέγοντες, παρὰ τὸ μὴ δύνασθαι Κύριον εἰσαγαγεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν γῆν ἣν εἶπεν αὐτοῖς, καὶ παρὰ τὸ μισῆσαι αὐτοὺς, ἐξήγαγεν αὐτοὺς ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἀποκτεῖναι αὐτούς.
Deuteronomy 11 5 vobisque quae fecerit in solitudine donec veniretis ad hunc locum : And what he hath done to you in the wilderness, til you came to this place: καὶ ὅσα ἐποίησεν ἡμῖν ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ ἕως ἤλθετε εἰς τὸν τόπον τοῦτον,
Deuteronomy 11 24 Omnis locus, quem calcaverit pes vester, vester erit. A deserto, et a Libano, a flumine magno Euphrate usque ad mare occidentale erunt termini vestri. Every place, that your foot shall tread upon, shall be yours. From the desert, and from Libanus, from the great river Euphrates unto the western sea shall be your borders.
He hath brought you forty years through the desert: your garments are not worn out, neither are the shoes of your feet consumed with age.
Deuteronomy 32 10 Invenit eum in terra deserta, in loco horroris, et vastae solitudinis : circumduxit eum, et docuit : et custodivit quasi pupillam oculi sui. He found him in a desert land, in a place of horror, and of vast wilderness: he led him about, and taught him: and he kept him as the apple of his eye.
Deuteronomy 32 51 quia praevaricati estis contra me in medio filiorum Israel ad aquas contradictionis in Cades deserti Sin : et non sanctificastis me inter filios Israel. Because you trespassed against me in the midst of the children of Israel, at the waters of contradiction, in Cades of the desert of Sin: and you did not sanctify me among the children of Israel.
Deuteronomy 34 3 et australem partem, et latitudinem campi Jericho civitatis palmarum usque Segor. And the south part, and the breadth of the plain of Jericho the city of palm trees as far as Segor.
Josue 1 4 A deserto et Libano usque ad fluvium magnum Euphraten, omnis terra Hethaeorum usque ad mare magnum contra solis occasum erit terminus vester. From the desert, and from Libanus unto the great river Euphrates, all the land of the Hethites, unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your border.
Josue 5 5 qui omnes circumcisi erant. Populus autem qui natus est in deserto, Now these were all circumcised. But the people that were born in the desert,
As well in the mountains as in the plains and the champaign countries. In Asedoth, and in the wilderness, and in the south was the Hethite and the Amorrhite, the Chanaanite and the Pherezite, the Hevite and the Jebusite.
The Lord therefore hath granted me life, as he promised until this present day, It is forty and five years since the Lord spoke this word to Moses, when Israel journeyed through the wilderness: this day I am eighty-five years old, Καὶ νῦν διέθρεψέ με Κύριος ὃν τρόπον εἶπε· τοῦτο τεσσαρακοστὸν καὶ πέμπτον ἔτος, ἀφʼ οὗ ἐλάλησε Κύριος τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο πρὸς Μωυσῆν· καὶ ἐπορεύθη Ἰσραὴλ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ· καὶ νῦν ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ σήμερον ὀγδοήκοντα καὶ πέντε ἐτῶν·
Josue 15 1 Igitur sors filiorum Judae per cognationes suas ista fuit : a termino Edom, desertum Sin, contra meridiem, et usque ad extremam partem australis plagae. Now the lot of the children of Juda by their kindreds was this: From the frontier of Edom, to the desert of Sin southward, and to the uttermost part of the south coast.
Josue 15 21 Erantque civitates ab extremis partibus filiorum Juda juxta terminos Edom a meridie : Cabseel et Eder et Jagur, And the cities from the uttermost parts of the children of Juda by the borders of Edom to the south, were Cabseel and Eder and Jagur,
And the lot of the sons of Joseph fell from the Jordan over against Jericho and the waters thereof, on the east: the wilderness which goeth up from Jericho to the mountain of Bethel: Καὶ ἐγένετο τὰ ὅρια υἱῶν Ἰωσὴφ ἀπὸ τοῦ Ἰορδάνου τοῦ κατὰ Ἱεριχὼ ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν· καὶ ἀναβήσεται ἀπὸ Ἱεριχὼ εἰς τὴν ὀρεινὴν, τὴν ἔρημον, εἰς Βαιθὴλ Λουζά.
And beyond the Jordan to the east of Jericho, they appointed Bosor, which is upon the plain of the wilderness of the tribe of Ruben, and Ramoth in Galaad of the tribe of Gad, and Gaulon in Basan of the tribe of Manasses.
Of the tribe of Ruben beyond the Jordan over against Jericho, Bosor in the wilderness, one of the cities of refuge, Misor and Jaser and Jethson and Mephaath, four cities with their suburbs.
Viderunt oculi vestri cuncta quae in Aegypto fecerim, et habitastis in solitudine multo tempore : And the children of Israel cried to the Lord: and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them. Your eyes saw all that I did in Egypt, and you dwelt in the wilderness a long time.
And the children of the Cinite, the kinsman of Moses, went up from the city of palms, with the children of Juda, into the wilderness of his lot, which is at the south side of Arad, and they dwelt with him.
Judges 8 7 Quibus ille ait : Cum ergo tradiderit Dominus Zebee et Salmana in manus meas, conteram carnes vestras cum spinis tribulisque deserti. And he said to them: When the Lord therefore shall have delivered Zebee and Salmana into my hands, I will thresh your flesh with the thorns and briers of the desert.
So he took the ancients of the city, and thorns and briers of the desert, and tore them with the same, and cut in pieces the men of Soccoth.
But when they came up out of Egypt, he walked through the desert to the Red Sea, and came into Cades.
And went round the land of Edom at the side, and the land of Moab: and came over against the east coast of the land of Moab, and camped on the other side of the Arnon: and he would not enter the bounds of Moab.
And all the coasts thereof from the Arnon to the Jaboc, and from the wilderness to the Jordan.
And began to go towards the way of the desert, the enemy pursuing them thither also. And they that fired the city came also out to meet them.
And when they that remained of Benjamin saw this, they fled into the wilderness, and made towards the rock that is called Remmon. In that flight also, as they were straggling, and going different ways; they slew of them five thousand men. And as they went farther, they still pursued them, and slew also other two thousand.
Judges 20 47 Remanserunt itaque de omni numero Benjamin, qui evadere et fugere in solitudinem potuerunt, sexcenti viri : sederuntque in petra Remmon mensibus quatuor. And there remained of all the number of Benjamin only six hundred men that were able to escape, and flee to the wilderness: and they abode in the rock Remmon four months.
Woe to us: for there was no such great joy yesterday, and the day before: Woe to us. Who shall deliver us from the hand of these high Gods? these are the Gods that struck Egypt with all the plagues in the desert.
1_Kings 23 14 Morabatur autem David in deserto in locis firmissimis, mansitque in monte solitudinis Ziph, in monte opaco : quaerebat eum tamen Saul cunctis diebus, et non tradidit eum Deus in manus ejus. But David abode in the desert in strong holds, and he remained in a mountain of the desert of Ziph, in a woody hill. And Saul sought him always: but the Lord delivered him not into his hands.

1_Kings 23 24 At illi surgentes abierunt in Ziph ante Saul : David autem et viri ejus erant in deserto Maon, in campestribus ad dexteram Jesimon. And they arose, and went to Ziph before Saul: and David and his men were in the desert of Maon, in the plain at the right hand of Jesimon.
Then Saul and his men went to seek him: and it was told David, and forthwith he went down to the rock, and abode in the wilderness of Maon: and when Saul had heard of it, he pursued after David in the wilderness of Maon.

1_Kings 24 2 Cumque reversus esset Saul, postquam persecutus est Philisthaeos, nuntiaverunt ei, dicentes : Ecce David in deserto est Engaddi. And when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, they told him, saying: Behold, David is in the desert of Engaddi.
Consurgensque David descendit in desertum Pharan. And Samuel died, and all Israel was gathered together, and they mourned for him, and buried him in his house in Ramatha. And David rose, and went down into the wilderness of Pharan.
1_Kings 25 4 Cum ergo audisset David in deserto quod tonderet Nabal gregem suum, And when David heard in the wilderness, that Nabal was shearing his sheep, καὶ ἤκουσε Δαυὶδ ἐν τῇ ἐρήμῳ, ὅτι κείρει Νάβαλ ὁ Καρμήλιος τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ.
1_Kings 25 7 Audivi quod tonderent pastores tui, qui erant nobiscum in deserto : numquam eis molesti fuimus, nec aliquando defuit quidquam eis de grege, omni tempore quo fuerunt nobiscum in Carmelo. I have heard that thy shepherds that were with us in the desert were shearing: we never molested them, neither was there ought missing to them of the flock at any time, all the while they were with us in Carmel.
But one of the servants told, Abigail, the wife of Nabal, saying: Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness, to salute our master: and he rejected them.

The voice of one crying in the desert: Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the wilderness the paths of our God.
Isaias 41 18 Aperiam in supinis collibus flumina, et in medio camporum fontes : ponam desertum in stagna aquarum, et terram inviam in rivos aquarum. I will open rivers in the high hills, and fountains in the midst of the plains: I will turn the desert into pools of waters, and the impassable land into streams of waters.
Isaias 42 11 Sublevetur desertum et civitates ejus. In domibus habitabit Cedar : laudate, habitatores petrae ; de vertice montium clamabunt. Let the desert and the cities thereof be exalted: Cedar shall dwell in houses: ye inhabitants of Petra, give praise, they shall cry from the top of the mountains.
Isaias 43 19 Ecce ego facio nova, et nunc orientur, utique cognoscetis ea : ponam in deserto viam, et in invio flumina. Behold I do new things, and now they shall spring forth, verily you shall know them: I will make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.
Isaias 43 20 Glorificabit me bestia agri, dracones, et struthiones : quia dedi in deserto aquas, flumina in invio, ut darem potum populo meo, electo meo. The beast of the field shall glorify me, the dragons and the ostriches: because I have given waters in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, to my chosen.
They thirsted not in the desert, when he led them out: he brought forth water out of the rock for them, and he clove the rock, and the waters gushed out.
Isaias 49 8 [Haec dicit Dominus : In tempore placito exaudivi te, et in die salutis auxiliatus sum tui : et servavi te, et dedi te in foedus populi, ut suscitares terram, et possideres haereditates dissipatas ; Thus saith the Lord: In an acceptable time I have heard thee, and in the day of salvation I have helped thee: and I have preserved thee, and given thee to be a covenant of the people, that thou mightest raise up the earth, and possess the inheritances that were destroyed:
Because I came, and there was not a man: I called, and there was none that would hear. Is my hand shortened and become little, that I cannot redeem? or is there no strength in me to deliver? Behold at my rebuke I will make the sea a desert, I will turn the rivers into dry land: the fishes shall rot for want of water, and shall die for thirst.
Give praise, O thou barren, that bearest not: sing forth praise, and make a joyful noise, thou that didst not travail with child: for many are the children of the desolate, more than of her that hath a husband, saith the Lord.
Isaias 61 4 Et aedificabunt deserta a saeculo, et ruinas antiquas erigent, et instaurabunt civitates desertas, dissipatas in generationem et generationem. And they shall build the places that have been waste from of old, and shall raise up ancient ruins, and shall repair the desolate cities, that were destroyed for generation and generation.

He that led them out through the deep, as a horse in the wilderness that stumbleth not.
Isaias 64 9 Ne irascaris, Domine, satis, et ne ultra memineris iniquitatis nostrae ; ecce, respice, populus tuus omnes nos. Be not very angry, O Lord, and remember no longer our iniquity: behold, see we are all thy people.
