Fratres vestri, et omnis domus Israel, plangant incendium quod Dominus suscitavit : And Moses said to Aaron, and to Eleazar and Ithamar, his sons: Uncover not your heads, and rend not your garments, lest perhaps you die, and indignation come upon all the congregation. Let your brethren, and all the house of Israel, bewail the burning which the Lord has kindled.
And if it be necessary that he carry any of these things when they are dead: he shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the sun set.
And he that shall carry such carcasses, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until evening: because all these things are unclean to you.
And upon what thing soever any of their carcasses shall fall, it shall be defiled, whether it be a vessel of wood, or a garment, or skins or haircloths: or any thing in which work is done. They shall be dipped in water, and shall be unclean until the evening, and so afterwards shall be clean.
And he that eateth or carrieth any thing thereof, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the evening.
And he that eateth or carrieth any thing thereof, shall wash his clothes, and shall be unclean until the evening.
And on the seventh day, he shall look on him. If the leprosy be somewhat obscure, and not spread in the skin, he shall declare him clean, because it is but a scab: and the man shall wash his clothes, and shall be clean.
Leviticus 13 34 Si die septimo visa fuerit stetisse plaga in loco suo, nec humilior carne reliqua, mundabit eum : lotisque vestibus suis, mundus erit. If on the seventh day the evil seem to have stayed in its place, and not lower than the other flesh, he shall cleanse him: and his clothes being washed he shall be clean.
Leviticus 13 45 habebit vestimenta dissuta, caput nudum, os veste contectum, contaminatum ac sordidum se clamabit. Shall have his clothes hanging loose, his head bare, his mouth covered with a cloth: and he shall cry out that he is defiled and unclean.
Leviticus 13 47 Vestis lanea sive linea, quae lepram habuerit, A woollen or linen garment that shall have the leprosy Καὶ ἱματίῳ ἐὰν γένηται ἁφὴ ἐν αὐτῷ λέπρας, ἐν ἱματίῳ ἐρέῳ, ἢ ἐν ἱματίῳ στυππυίνῳ,
Leviticus 13 47 Vestis lanea sive linea, quae lepram habuerit, A woollen or linen garment that shall have the leprosy Καὶ ἱματίῳ ἐὰν γένηται ἁφὴ ἐν αὐτῷ λέπρας, ἐν ἱματίῳ ἐρέῳ, ἢ ἐν ἱματίῳ στυππυίνῳ,
Leviticus 13 47 Vestis lanea sive linea, quae lepram habuerit, A woollen or linen garment that shall have the leprosy Καὶ ἱματίῳ ἐὰν γένηται ἁφὴ ἐν αὐτῷ λέπρας, ἐν ἱματίῳ ἐρέῳ, ἢ ἐν ἱματίῳ στυππυίνῳ,
Leviticus 13 49 si alba vel rufa macula fuerit infecta, lepra reputabitur, ostendeturque sacerdoti : If it be infected with a white or red spot, it shall be accounted the leprosy, and shall be shewn to the priest.
Leviticus 13 51 et die septimo rursus aspiciens, si deprehenderit crevisse, lepra perseverans est : pollutum judicabit vestimentum, et omne in quo fuerit inventa : And on the seventh day when he looketh on it again, if he find that it is grown, it is a fixed leprosy. He shall judge the garment unclean, and every thing wherein it shall be found.
Leviticus 13 52 et idcirco comburetur flammis. And therefore it shall be burnt with fire.
Leviticus 13 53 Quod si eam viderit non crevisse, But if he see that it is not grown, Ἐὰν δὲ ἴδῃ ὁ ἱερεὺς, καὶ μὴ διαχέηται ἡ ἁφὴ ἐν τῷ ἱματίῳ, ἢ ἐν τῷ στήμονι, ἢ ἐν τῇ κρόκῃ, ἢ ἐν παντὶ σκεύει δερματίνῳ·
And when he shall see that the former colour is not returned, nor yet the leprosy spread, he shall judge it unclean: and shall burn it with fire, for the leprosy has taken hold of the outside of the garment, or through the whole.
But if the place of the leprosy be somewhat dark, after the garment is washed, he shall tear it off, and divide it from that which is sound.
And if after this there appear in those places that before were without spot, a flying and wandering leprosy: it must be burnt with fire.
If it cease, he shall wash with water the parts that are pure, the second time: and they shall be clean.
Leviticus 14 8 Cumque laverit homo vestimenta sua, radet omnes pilos corporis, et lavabitur aqua : purificatusque ingredietur castra, ita dumtaxat ut maneat extra tabernaculum suum septem diebus, And when the man hath washed his clothes, he shall shave all the hair of his body, and shall be washed with water: and being purified he shall enter into the camp, yet so that he tarry without his own tent seven days.
Et lotis rursum vestibus et corpore, And on the seventh day he shall shave the hair of his head, and his beard and his eyebrows, and the hair of all his body. And having washed again his clothes, and his body, Καὶ ἔσται τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ ἑβδόμῃ, ξυρηθήσεται πᾶσαν τὴν τρίχα αὐτοῦ, τὴν κεφαλὴν αὐτοῦ, καὶ τὸν πώγωνα, καὶ τὰς ὀφρῦς, καὶ πᾶσαν τὴς τρίχα αὐτοῦ ξυρηθήσεται· καὶ πλυνεῖ τὰ ἱμάτια, καὶ λούσεται τὸ σῶμα αὐτοῦ ὕδατι, καὶ καθαρὸς ἔσται.
And he that sleepeth in it, and eateth any thing, shall wash his clothes.

Keep ye my laws. Thou shalt not make thy cattle to gender with beasts of any other kind. Thou shalt not sow thy field with different seeds. Thou shalt not wear a garment that is woven of two sorts.

He shall not uncover his head: he shall not rend his garments.
2_Kings 19 24 Miphiboseth quoque filius Saul descendit in occursum regis, illotis pedibus et intonsa barba : vestesque suas non laverat a die qua egressus fuerat rex, usque ad diem reversionis ejus in pace. And Miphiboseth the son of Saul came down to meet the king, and he had neither washed his feet, nor trimmed his beard: nor washed his garments from the day that the king went out, until the day of his return in peace.
And Amasa imbrued with blood, lay in the midst of the way. A certain man saw this that all the people stood still to look upon him, so he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and covered him with a garment, that they who passed might, not stop on his account.
Now king David was old, and advanced in years: and when he was covered with clothes he was not warm.
So it came to pass at that time, that Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, and the prophet Ahias, the Silonite, clad with a new garment, found him in the way: and they two were alone in the field.
3_Kings 11 30 Apprehendensque Ahias pallium suum novum quo coopertus erat, scidit in duodecim partes. And Ahias taking his new garment, wherewith he was clad, divided it into twelve parts: Καὶ ἐπελάβετο Ἀχιὰ τοῦ ἱματίου αὐτοῦ τοῦ καινοῦ τοῦ ἐπʼ αὐτῷ, καὶ διέῤῥηξεν αὐτὸ δώδεκα ῥήγματα,
And they went out at noon. But Benadad was drinking himself drunk in his pavilion, and the two and thirty kings with him, who were come to help him.
And Eliseus saw him, and cried: My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the driver thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own garments, and rent them in two pieces.
And one went out into the field to gather wild herbs: and he found something like a wild vine, and gathered of it wild gourds of the field, and filled his mantle, and coming back, he shred them into the pot of pottage; for he knew not what it was.
4_Kings 5 7 Cumque legisset rex Israel litteras, scidit vestimenta sua, et ait : Numquid deus ego sum, ut occidere possim et vivificare, quia iste misit ad me ut curem hominem a lepra sua ? animadvertite, et videte quod occasiones quaerat adversum me. And when the king of Israel had read the letter, he rent his garments, and said: Am I God, to be able to kill and give life, that this man hath sent to me to heal a man of his leprosy? mark, and see how he seeketh occasions against me.
And when Eliseus, the man of God, had heard this, to wit, that the king of Israel had rent his garments, he sent to him, saying: Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come to me, and let him know that there is a prophet in Israel.
But he said: Was not my heart present, when the man turned back, from his chariot, to meet thee? So now thou hast received money, and received garments, to buy oliveyards and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and men-servants, and maid-servants.
When the king heard this, he rent his garments, and passed by upon the wall. And all the people saw the haircloth which he wore within next to his flesh.
And they went after them, as far as the Jordan: and behold, all the way was full of garments, and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away, in their fright, and the messengers returned, and told the king.
4_Kings 9 13 Festinaverunt itaque, et unusquisque tollens pallium suum posuerunt sub pedibus ejus in similitudinem tribunalis, et cecinerunt tuba, atque dixerunt : Regnavit Jehu. Then they made haste, and taking every man his garment, laid it under his feet, after the manner of a judgment seat, and they sounded the trumpet, and said: Jehu is king.
4_Kings 11 14 vidit regem stantem super tribunal juxta morem, et cantores, et tubas prope eum, omnemque populum terrae laetantem, et canentem tubis : et scidit vestimenta sua, clamavitque : Conjuratio, conjuratio. She saw the king standing upon a tribunal, as the manner was, and the singers, and the trumpets near him, and all the people of the land rejoicing, and sounding the trumpets: and she rent her garments, and cried: A conspiracy, a conspiracy.
And when king Ezechias heard these words, he rent his garments, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.
4_Kings 22 11 et audisset rex verba libri legis Domini, scidit vestimenta sua. And the king had heard the words of the law of the Lord, he rent his garments.
And thy heart hath been moved to fear, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, hearing the words against this place, and the inhabitants thereof, to wit, that they should become a wonder and a curse: and thou hast rent thy garments, and wept before me; I also have heard thee; saith the Lord.
4_Kings 25 29 Et mutavit vestes ejus quas habuerat in carcere, et comedebat panem semper in conspectu ejus cunctis diebus vitae suae. And he changed his garments which he had in prison, and he ate bread always before him, all the days of his life.
2_Paralipomenon 34 19 audissetque ille verba legis, scidit vestimenta sua : And when he had heard the words of the law, he rent his garments: Καὶ ἐγένετο ὡς ἤκουσεν ὁ βασιλεὺς τοὺς λόηους τοῦ νόμου, καὶ διέῤῥηξε τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ.
2_Paralipomenon 34 27 atque emollitum est cor tuum, et humiliatus es in conspectu Dei super his quae dicta sunt contra locum hunc et habitatores Jerusalem, reveritusque faciem meam scidisti vestimenta tua, et flevisti coram me : ego quoque exaudivi te, dicit Dominus. And thy heart was softened, and thou hast humbled thyself in the sight of God for the things that are spoken against this place, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and reverencing my face, hast rent thy garments, and wept before me: I also have heard thee, saith the Lord.
Esdras 9 3 Cumque audissem sermonem istum, scidi pallium meum et tunicam, et evelli capillos capitis mei et barbae, et sedi moerens. And when I had heard this word, I rent my mantle and my coat, and plucked off the hairs of my head and my beard, and I sat down mourning.
And at the evening sacrifice I rose up from my affliction, and having rent my mantle and my garment, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands to the Lord my God, Καὶ ἐν θυσίᾳ τῇ ἑσπερινῇ ἀνέστην ἀπὸ ταπεινώσεώς μου· καὶ ἐν τῷ διαῤῥήξαί με τὰ ἱμάτιά μου, καὶ ἐπαλλόμην, καὶ κλίνω ἐπὶ τὰ γόνατά μου, καὶ ἐκπετάζω τὰς χεῖράς μου πρὸς Κύριον τὸν Θεὸν,
Job 1 20 Tunc surrexit Job, et scidit vestimenta sua : et tonso capite corruens in terram, adoravit, Then Job rose up, and rent his garments, and having shaven his head, fell down upon the ground, and worshipped,
Job 24 7 Nudos dimittunt homines, indumenta tollentes, quibus non est operimentum in frigore : They send men away naked, taking away their clothes who have no covering in the cold:
Proverbs 6 27 Numquid potest homo abscondere ignem in sinu suo, ut vestimenta illius non ardeant ? Can a man hide fire in his bosom, and his garments not burn? Ἀποδήσει τις πῦρ ἐν κόλπῳ, τὰ δὲ ἱμάτια οὐ κατακαύσει;
Take away his garment that hath been surety for a stranger: and take from him a pledge for strangers.
At all times let thy garments be white, and let not oil depart from thy head.
Canticle 4 10 Quam pulchrae sunt mammae tuae, soror mea sponsa ! pulchriora sunt ubera tua vino, et odor unguentorum tuorum super omnia aromata. How beautiful are thy breasts, my sister, my spouse! thy breasts are more beautiful than wine, and the sweet smell of thy ointments above all aromatical spices. Τί ἐκαλλιώθησαν μαστοί σου ἀδελφή μου, νύμφη; τί ἐκαλλιώθησαν μαστοί σου ἀπὸ οἴνου, καὶ ὀσμὴ ἱματίων σου ὑπὲρ πάντα ἀρώματα;
Canticle 4 11 Favus distillans labia tua, sponsa ; mel et lac sub lingua tua : et odor vestimentorum tuorum sicut odor thuris. Thy lips, my spouse, are as a dropping honeycomb, honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments, as the smell of frankincense.
Isaias 3 6 Apprehendet enim vir fratrem suum, domesticum patris sui : Vestimentum tibi est, princeps esto noster, ruina autem haec sub manu tua. For a man shall take hold of his brother, one of the house of his father, saying: Thou hast a garment, be thou our ruler, and let this ruin be under thy hand.
In that day he shall answer, saying: I am no healer, and in my house there is no bread, nor clothing: make me not ruler of the people.
Isaias 4 1 [Et apprehendent septem mulieres virum unum in die illa, dicentes : Panem nostrum comedemus, et vestimentis nostris operiemur : tantummodo invocetur nomen tuum super nos ; aufer opprobrium nostrum.] And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, saying: We will eat our own bread, and wear our own apparel: only let us be called by thy name, take away our reproach.
For the yoke of their burden, and the rod of their shoulder, and the sceptre of their oppressor thou hast overcome, as in the day of Madian.
Thou shalt not keep company with them, even in burial: for thou hast destroyed thy land, thou hast slain thy people: the seed of the wicked shall not be named for ever.
Cum consummaveris depraedationem, depraedaberis ; cum fatigatus desieris contemnere, contemneris. Woe to thee that spoilest, shalt not thou thyself also be spoiled? and thou that despisest, shalt not thyself also be despised? when thou shalt have made an end of spoiling, thou shalt be spoiled: when being wearied thou shalt cease to despise, thou shalt be despised.
And it came to pass, when king Ezechias had heard it, that he rent his garments and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.
Isaias 50 9 Ecce Dominus Deus auxiliator meus ; quis est qui condemnet me ? Ecce omnes quasi vestimentum conterentur ; tinea comedet eos. Behold the Lord God is my helper: who is he that shall condemn me? Lo, they shall all be destroyed as a garment, the moth shall eat them up.
Lift up your eyes to heaven, and look down to the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish like smoke, and the earth shall be worn away like a garment, and the inhabitants thereof shall perish in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my justice shall not fail.
Isaias 51 8 sicut enim vestimentum, sic comedet eos vermis, et sicut lanam, sic devorabit eos tinea : salus autem mea in sempiternum erit, et justitia mea in generationes generationum. For the worm shall eat them up as a garment: and the moth shall consume them as wool: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my justice from generation to generation.
Isaias 59 6 Telae eorum non erunt in vestimentum, neque operientur operibus suis ; opera eorum opera inutilia, et opus iniquitatis in manibus eorum. Their webs shall not be for clothing, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works are unprofitable works, and the work of iniquity is in their hands.
Isaias 59 17 Indutus est justitia ut lorica, et galea salutis in capite ejus ; indutus est vestimentis ultionis, et opertus est quasi pallio zeli : He put on justice as a breastplate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head: he put on the garments of vengeance, and was clad with zeal as with a cloak.
Who is this that cometh from Edom, with dyed garments from Bosra, this beautiful one in his robe, walking in the greatness of his strength. I, that speak justice, and am a defender to save.
