He looked towards Sodom and Gomorrha, and the whole land of that country: and he saw the ashes rise up from the earth as the smoke of a furnace.

Genesis 21 16 Et abiit, seditque e regione procul quantum potest arcus jacere : dixit enim : Non videbo morientem puerum : et sedens contra, levavit vocem suam et flevit. And she went her way, and sat over against him a great way off, as far as a bow can carry, for she said: I will not see the boy die: and sitting over against, she lifted up her voice and wept.

And a wind going out from the Lord, taking quails up beyond the sea brought them, and cast them into the camp for the space of one day's journey, on every side of the camp round about, and they flew in the air two cubits high above the ground.
Numbers 12 10 nubes quoque recessit quae erat super tabernaculum : et ecce Maria apparuit candens lepra quasi nix. Cumque respexisset eam Aaron, et vidisset perfusam lepra, The cloud also that was over the tabernacle departed: and behold Mary appeared white as snow with a leprosy. And when Aaron had looked on her, and saw her all covered with leprosy, Καὶ ἡ νεφέλη ἀπέστη ἀπὸ τῆς σκηνῆς· καὶ ἰδοὺ Μαριὰμ λεπρῶσα ὡσεὶ χιών· καὶ ἐπέβλεψεν Ἀαρὼν ἐπὶ Μαριὰμ, καὶ ἰδοὺ λεπρῶσα.
Let her not be as one dead, and as an abortive that is cast forth from the mother's womb. Lo, now one half of her flesh is consumed with the leprosy.

Numbers 14 15 quod occideris tantam multitudinem quasi unum hominem, et dicant : May hear that thou hast killed so great a multitude as it were one man and may say: Καὶ ἐκτρίψεις τὸν λαὸν τοῦτον ὡσεὶ ἄνθρωπον ἕνα· καὶ ἐροῦσι τὰ ἔθνη ὅσοι ἀκηκόασι τὸ ὄνομά σου, λέγοντες,
Numbers 22 4 dixit ad majores natu Madian : Ita delebit hic populus omnes, qui in nostris finibus commorantur, quomodo solet bos herbas usque ad radices carpere. Ipse erat eo tempore rex in Moab. He said to the elders of Madian: So will this people destroy all that dwell in our borders, as the ox is wont to eat the grass to the very roots. Now he was at that time king in Moab.

As woody valleys, as watered gardens near the rivers, as tabernacles which the Lord hath pitched, as cedars by the waterside.

And may go out and in before them, and may lead them out, or bring them in: lest the people of the Lord be as sheep without a shepherd.
Deuteronomy 1 10 Non possum solus sustinere vos : quia Dominus Deus vester multiplicavit vos, et estis hodie sicut stellae caeli, plurimi. I alone am not able to bear you: for the Lord your God hath multiplied you, and you are this day as the stars of heaven, for multitude.
And the Amorrhite that dwelt in the mountains coming out, and meeting you, chased you, as bees do: and made slaughter of you from Seir as far as Horma.
And your sin that you had committed, that is, the calf, I took, and burned it with fire, and breaking it into pieces, until it was as small as dust, I threw it into the torrent, which cometh down from the mountain.
For the land, which thou goest to possess, is not like the land of Egypt, from whence thou camest out, where, when the seed is sown, waters are brought in to water it after the manner of gardens.
Deuteronomy 28 49 Adducet Dominus super te gentem de longinquo, et de extremis terrae finibus in similitudinem aquilae volantis cum impetu, cujus linguam intelligere non possis : The Lord will bring upon thee a nation from afar, and from the uttermost ends of the earth, like an eagle that flyeth swiftly, whose tongue thou canst not understand,
And you shall remain few in number, who before were as the stars of heaven for multitude, because thou heardst not the voice of the Lord thy God.
Deuteronomy 29 28 et ejecit eos de terra sua in ira et in furore, et in indignatione maxima, projecitque in terram alienam, sicut hodie comprobatur. And he hath cast them out of their land, in anger and in wrath, and in very great indignation, and hath thrown them into a strange land, as it is seen this day.
Let my doctrine gather as the rain, let my speech distil as the dew, as a shower upon the herb, and as drops upon the grass.

Josue 3 15 Ingressisque eis Jordanem, et pedibus eorum in parte aquae tinctis (Jordanis autem ripas alvei sui tempore messis impleverat), And as soon as they came into the Jordan, and their feet were dipped in part of the water, (now the Jordan, it being harvest time, had filled the banks of its channel,) Ὡς δὲ εἰσεπορεύοντο οἱ ἱερεῖς οἱ αἴροντες τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης ἐπὶ τὸν Ἰορδάνην, καὶ οἱ πόδες τῶν ἱερέων τῶν αἰρόντων τὴν κιβωτὸν τῆς διαθήκης Κυρίου ἐβάφησαν εἰς μέρος τοῦ ὕδατος τοῦ Ἰορδάνου· ὁ δὲ Ἰορδάνης ἐπληροῦτο καθʼ ὅλην τὴν κρηπίδα αὐτοῦ, ὡσεὶ ἡμέραι θερισμοῦ πυρῶν·
Josue 7 3 Et reversi dixerunt ei : Non ascendat omnis populus, sed duo vel tria millia virorum pergant, et deleant civitatem : quare omnis populus frustra vexabitur contra hostes paucissimos ? And returning, they said to him: Let not all the people go up, but let two or three thousand men go, and destroy the city: why should all the people be troubled in vain, against enemies that are very few?
Josue 7 4 Ascenderunt ergo tria millia pugnatorum. Qui statim terga vertentes, There went up therefore three thousand fighting men: who immediately turned their backs, Καὶ ἀνέβησαν ὡσεὶ τρισχίλιοι ἄνδρες, καὶ ἔφυγον ἀπὸ προσώπου ἀνδρῶν Γαί.
Josue 10 2 timuit valde. He was exceedingly afraid. For Gabaon was a great city, and one of the royal cities, and greater than the town of Hai, and all its fighting men were most valiant.
As strong as I was at that time when I was sent to view the land: the strength of that time continueth in me until this day, as well to fight as to march.
Judges 3 29 sed percusserunt Moabitas in tempore illo, circiter decem millia, omnes robustos et fortes viros. Nullus eorum evadere potuit. But they slew of the Moabites at that time, about ten thousand, all strong and valiant men: none of them could escape.
And the Lord said to him: I will be with thee: and thou shalt cut off Madian as one man.
But Zebee and Salmana were resting with all their army. For fifteen thousand men were left of all the troops of the eastern people, and one hundred and twenty thousand warriors that drew the sword were slain.
So they cut down boughs from the trees, every man as fast as he could, and followed their leader. And surrounding the fort, they set it on fire: and so it came to pass, that with the smoke and with the fire a thousand persons were killed, men and women together, of the inhabitants of the town of Sichem.
And the Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson, and he tore the lion as he would have torn a kid in pieces, having nothing at all in his hand: and he would not tell this to his father and mother.
Now when he was come to the place of the Jawbone, and the Philistines shouting went to meet him, the Spirit of the Lord came strongly upon him: and as flax is wont to be consumed at the approach of fire, so the bands with which he was bound were broken and loosed.
Judges 16 12 Quibus rursum Dalila vinxit eum, et clamavit : Philisthiim super te, Samson : in cubiculo insidiis praeparatis. Qui ita rupit vincula quasi fila telarum. Dalila bound him again with these, and cried out: The Philistines are upon thee, Samson, there being an ambush prepared for him in the chamber. But he broke the bands like threads of webs.
Now the house was full of men and women, and all the princes of the Philistines were there. Moreover about three thousand persons of both sexes, from the roof and the higher part of the house, were beholding Samson's play.
Then Samuel taking Saul, and his servant, brought them into the parlour, and gave them a place at the head of them that were invited. For there were about thirty men.
1_Kings 17 7 Hastile autem hastae ejus erat quasi liciatorium texentium : ipsum autem ferrum hastae ejus sexcentos siclos habebat ferri : et armiger ejus antecedebat eum. And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam, and the head of his spear weighed six hundred sicles of iron: and his armourbearer went before him.
Et maledixit Philisthaeus David in diis suis : And the Philistine said to David: Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with a staff? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
And after ten days had passed, the Lord struck Nabal, and he died.
And there were the three sons of Sarvia there, Joab, and Abisai, and Asael: now Asael was a most swift runner, like one of the roes that abide in the woods.
And they sent to Jezabel, saying: Naboth is stoned, and is dead.

Job 28 5 Terra de qua oriebatur panis, in loco suo igni subversa est. The land, out of which bread grew in its place, hath been overturned with fire.
She is like the merchant's ship, she bringeth her bread from afar.
I went down into the garden of nuts, to see the fruits of the valleys, and to look if the vineyard had flourished, and the pomegranates budded.
