Now when these things were done, the word of the Lord came to Abram by a vision, saying: Fear not, Abram, I am thy protector, and thy reward exceeding great.

And my justice shall answer for me tomorrow before thee, when the time of the bargain shall come; and all that is not of divers colours, and spotted, and brown, as well among the sheep as among the goats, shall accuse me of theft. If a man borrow of his neighbour any of these things, and it be hurt or die, the owner not being present, he shall be obliged to make restitution. Leviticus 19 13 Non facies calumniam proximo tuo nec vi opprimes eum. Non morabitur opus mercenarii tui apud te usque mane. Thou shalt not calumniate thy neighbour, nor oppress him by violence. The wages of him that hath been hired by thee shall not abide with thee until the morning.
And you shall eat them in all your places, both you and your families: because it is your reward for the ministry, wherewith you serve in the tabernacle of the testimony.
Deuteronomy 15 18 Non avertas ab eis oculos tuos, quando dimiseris eos liberos, quoniam juxta mercedem mercenarii per sex annos servivit tibi : ut benedicat tibi Dominus Deus tuus in cunctis operibus quae agis. Turn not away thy eyes from them when thou makest them free: because he hath served thee six years according to the wages of a hireling: that the Lord thy God may bless thee in all the works that thou dost.
Deuteronomy 24 14 Non negabis mercedem indigentis, et pauperis fratris tui, sive advenae, qui tecum moratur in terra, et intra portas tuas est : Thou shalt not refuse the hire of the needy, and the poor, whether he be thy brother, or a stranger that dwelleth with thee in the land, and is within thy gates: Οὐκ ἀπαδικήσεις μισθὸν πένητος καὶ ἐνδεοῦς ἐκ τῶν ἀδελφῶν σου, ἢ ἐκ τῶν προσηλύτων τῶν ἐν ταῖς πόλεσίν σου.
But thou shalt pay him the price of his labour the same day, before the going down of the sun, because he is poor, and with it maintaineth his life: lest he cry against thee to the Lord, and it be reputed to thee for a sin.
The Lord render unto thee for thy work, and mayst thou receive a full reward of the Lord the God of Israel, to whom thou art come, and under whose wings thou art fled.
Give orders, therefore, that thy servants cut me down cedar trees, out of Libanus, and let my servants be with thy servants: and I will give thee the hire of thy servants whatsoever thou wilt ask: for thou knowest how there is not among my people a man that has skill to hew wood like to the Sidonians.
Do you therefore take courage, and let not your hands be weakened: for there shall be a reward for your work.
Job 7 2 Sicut servus desiderat umbram, et sicut mercenarius praestolatur finem operis sui, As a servant longeth for the shade, as the hireling looketh for the end of his work; Ἢ ὥσπερ θεράπων δεδοικὼς τὸν Κύριον αὐτοῦ, καὶ τετευχὼς σκιᾶς; ἢ ὥσπερ μισθωτὸς ἀναμένων τὸν μισθὸν αὐτοῦ;
Proverbs 11 18 Impius facit opus instabile, seminanti autem justitiam merces fidelis. The wicked maketh an unsteady work: but to him that soweth justice, there is a faithful reward.
Hand in hand the evil man shall not be innocent: but the seed of the just shall be saved.
It is better therefore that two should be together, than one: for they have the advantage of their society:
For the living know that they shall die, but the dead know nothing more, neither have they a reward any more: for the memory of them is forgotten.
Isaias 40 10 ecce Dominus Deus in fortitudine veniet, et brachium ejus dominabitur : ecce merces ejus cum eo, et opus illius coram illo. Behold the Lord God shall come with strength, and his arm shall rule: Behold his reward is with him and his work is before him.
Isaias 62 11 Ecce Dominus auditum fecit in extremis terrae : Dicite filiae Sion : Ecce Salvator tuus venit ; ecce merces ejus cum eo, et opus ejus coram illo. Behold the Lord hath made it to be heard in the ends of the earth, tell the daughter of Sion: Behold thy Saviour cometh: behold his reward is with him, and his work before him.
Be glad and rejoice for your reward is very great in heaven. Take heed that you do not your justice before men, to be seen by them: otherwise you shall not have a reward of your Father who is in heaven.
